William Ferguson Colcock autobiography, 1858-1886 (bulk 1877).

Written mostly in 1877 with additional notes made in 1886. Mainly recollections of family life from childhood onward with only brief mentions of activities as a Representative in the South Carolina House of Representatives (1830-1847) and as a Representative in the U.S. Congress (1848-1853). Includes genealogical information. Together with two letters, one (1858) to Mary T. Gaillard concerning the death of Colcock's second wife, Emmeline Lucia, and another (1861) from his daughter, Emmeline Sarah concerning her engagement to Charles Jones Colcock Hutson.

C.J.C. Hutson was born in McPhersonville (formerly Beaufort District, S.C., a site now located in Hampton County, S.C.); attended South Carolina College, 1856 to 1859, but left due to ill health. At the time of the Civil War, Hutson enlisted in Gregg's 1st Regiment, was elected adjutant, and served in that capacity with his unit in Virginia.
